Why do we need architects?

Writer: SaumyaMSaumyaM

Food, clothing and shelter are the basic needs of humans.

With time and complexity and various factors, this field has evolved and various professional roles have stemmed out of this need for building and shelter.

So here are the 8 points to know why one needs an architect.

  1. In simpler terms, an architect designs according to your likes/dislikes, creates an experience for the user, whether choosing colors and window position, etc. for your ease and at the end of the day make you feel home.

  2. Architect designs building keeping in mind the site location, direction, climatology of the area according to climate zone (there are 5 climatic zones in India -design changes with every zone) it comes under.

  3. She/he designs keeping in mind the psychology of the human ,ergonometric, comfort and ease of the user.

  4. Functioning and aesthetics going hand in hand throughout.

  5. Architect not only builds and envisions the building but also its synergy with the surrounding built environment and thus help in creating a architectural character of the place and the city.

  6. One can easily overspend on a project but when a professional is hired for work, they can find alternative, give variety of material/methods to obtain a desired output and prevent over spending and executing work within a budget.

  7. An architect has a educational background of all the varied topics and thinking that goes behind for reaching to the final design….so an architect is in charge of holistic design and its execution. Of course with the varied other professionals working with them - civil engineers/structural engineer, contractors, MEP (mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing) consultants , Interior Designers and labourers. He/she is responsible for the end to end product, be it paper work, building bye laws, etc. Architect has the whole building well planned in advance considering all factors and creating best results with all the professionals in place.

  8. With changing climate ,need for green and sustainable architecture has become prominent, architect plays an important role to have a sustainable design and help in lessening the carbon foot print.

I believe "everything you see is art and architecture" and that is because of an artist and an architect respectively. He/she creates you with a lifestyle, a pattern with the function you do throughout your day. The roof on your head, the bus stand, the park where you have your walks, the café where you have a cup of coffee, stays with you and your memory, an artist/ an architect/urban designer or an architect has sure did his work right if it did stayed with you.:)
